With Singaporeans becoming more aware and conscious of health and nutrition, NTUC FairPrice introduced a five percent discount on all 1,000 products carrying the ‘Healthier Choice Symbol’, for 2 weeks in June 2016. This was the start of a series of initiatives by FairPrice to promote healthy eating and drive awareness on diabetes.
One in 3 Singapore residents have a chance of getting diabetes in their lifetime. Wholegrain rice has been shown to lower the risk of developing diabetes while containing more fibre, vitamins and minerals. To empower more consumers to make healthier food choices, FairPrice is also offering a five percent discount on housebrand wholegrain rice for three months, starting June 2016.
Ms Amanda Cheah welcomes the discount on housebrand wholegrain rice. She said, “I made a switch to red unpolished rice for my family because it is healthier and a source of good carbohydrates and fibre. And I use FairPrice’s housebrand as it is a more affordable option.”
The total savings from the healthier choice discounts are expected to be more than $0.5 million for FairPrice’s customers.
